Relieving Back Pain During Pregnancy
Pregnancy is not a disease however it causes a woman’s body to undergo both hormonal and structural changes. Often, these changes play a significant part in the cause of back pain. Back pain during pregnancy is a common problem most pregnant mother will experience. During the pregnancy, the uterus enlarges, weight changes and the center of gravity shifts forward. The added weight, which increases the normal lumbar curve and the cervical curves, causes a pregnant woman to lean back. This is one of the main reason why woman experience back pain during pregnancy. Another reason is because during pregnancy, the hormone relaxin is released to loosen the pelvic ligaments in preparation for delivery. However, this hormone causes all the joints and ligaments in the body to become elastic and unstable. Low back pain during delivery is also called back labor and is not uncommon. While there is no solution or cure to this excruciating pain during pregnancy, it will somehow go away after awhile. Till now, there is still no explanation why some woman experience low back pain during pregnancy while others does not. In some cases, a simple massage from partner can help to reduce this back pain during pregnancy. Squatting pulls the center of gravity downwards and some women do report temporary relief with this position. Epidural injections during delivery may cause back pain for some time during delivery. In some cases, doctor may suggest exercise to help relief back pain during pregnancy. Walking, swimming, and prenatal yoga are frequently recommended. Certain stretching exercises should, however be avoided. To prevent the experience of back pain during pregnancy, it might be a good idea to start preparing the body as early as possible.
